A small change on our website homepage marks the beginning of something big.

We’re proud to launch our first-ever Eileen O’Connor May Campaign — a week-long initiative to raise awareness and support for the development of Eileen O’Connor Catholic School.

We are building Eileen O’Connor Catholic School, a purpose-built K–12 campus in Tuggerah, designed to provide specialist, faith-based education for students with moderate cognitive disability, autism and/or complex learning needs. This is more than a construction project. It’s a shared mission to create a school where every child is seen, known, and supported to thrive and be fully embraced and understood. Accepted for who they are and the great gifts they offer our community.

We have already begun the journey with support classes across the Diocese, located across the Northern Beaches, North Shore and Central Coast, but the need continues to grow. This school is our answer.

Throughout this week, we’ll share stories, voices, and ways you can partner with us — whether by spreading awareness, contributing to the build, or simply standing in support of the families who deserve a school that truly fits their child’s needs.

🚶🏽‍♀️🚶🏼🚶🏻‍♂️WE’RE TAKING IT IN OUR STRIDE ON FRIDAY, 16 May 2025 at St Cecilia's by joining in the National Walk Safely to School Day.

Not only is walking a wonderful way to get you where you want to be, but it also gets your health – and your child’s health on the right track too. Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking
as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine.

You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by:
- Walking with them the whole way to school
- If they get the bus, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop
- If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way.

Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic health problems, it also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic.

Congratulations to Ava-Capri R of Year 6 for her selection to the POLDING Football team. Ava is pictured 4th from the left. Ava-Capri trialled recently in Bathurst and gained selection with friends from other CSBB schools to play football in the State Championships in Ballina this August. Good Luck and Keep up the hard work at training Ava!

National Families Week in Australia is celebrated

National Families Week in Australia is celebrated annually from May 12 to 18. This week is dedicated to recognizing and appreciating the vital role that families play in Australian society. The theme for 2025 is "Lending a Hand to Thrive: Supporting Each Other". It's a time for families to come together, participate in various activities, and strengthen their bonds.

Thank you to our SCB Parent Network, working together to organise various social events to foster a sense of community, support, and togetherness among families, including this week's Social Trivia Night for Parents: A fun-filled evening where parents can test their knowledge, socialize, and enjoy a night out. Ask your class parents for more details if you have not reserved a spot yet, join a table - all warmly welcome.

On a school level, the upcoming Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews provide opportunities for parents, students, and teachers to discuss progress, set goals, and collaborate on the best ways to support the students' learning journey.

On Friday, it is 'National Walk to School Day', encouraging students and their families to walk to school together, promoting a sense of community and healthy living. Check out the recent Compass note about the meeting places for families in our local area.

Finally, we have our Family Come Gather Mass on Sunday 18th May at 9am. A special mass to bring families together in worship and reflection, celebrating the importance of faith and family in the community. See you there! #stceciliasbalgowlah
