It is with deep sadness we hear the news from Rome of the death of our Holy Father, Pope Francis.

The 88-year-old pontiff, who had been in increasingly failing health, passed away at Casa Santa Martia at 7:35am Rome time.

Please unite with all the Christian faithful in praying for the eternal rest of his soul and entrust him to the tender loving mercy of God the Father. We entrust him to the intercession of Mary and the Saints.

Pope Francis was a good shepherd whose love for Jesus Christ and His Church inspired millions around the world. May we strive to carry forward his message of mercy, compassion, and unity in this Holy Year which Pope Francis himself declared a Jubilee of Hope.

As the successor of Saint Peter, and through his teachings and actions, Pope Francis took the Gospel to the poor, the vulnerable and the marginalised, while calling everyone to care for the world as our common home.

May the Lord in whom he trusted in now welcome him home and let perpetual light shine upon him.

In the coming days, more information will be available regarding opportunities to come together as the community of the Church of Broken Bay to remember and pray for this remarkable and prophetic leader.

Last Friday, the SCB Cross Country was held at Nor

Last Friday, the SCB Cross Country was held at North Harbour Reserve. A warm and sunny day, ideal for our budding young runners. After a warm up walk around the course, the students ran with their peers in their age group.

Students in the 8-year age groups (as of 31 December 2025) and older are eligible for selection into the SCB Cross Country squad that will compete in the Northern Beaches Cross Country carnival.

Qualifying distances for this carnival are:
Juniors: (8, & 9 years old) - must run/jog 2km (4 laps of the course)
10 year olds must run/jog 2km (4 laps of the course)
11 and 12 year olds must run/jog 3k (6 laps of the course)

Well done to all and Good luck to all the students who qualified for the CSBB Northern Beaches carnival to be held next term.

Congratulations to our Core Value Award recipients

Congratulations to our Core Value Award recipients for Term 1, RESPECT.

In Kindergarten, Aoife is always thinking of others and helping those around her without being asked. Isobel’s polite and friendly nature resonates throughout the classroom and playground through her kind words and actions.

In Year 1, William shows respect for himself in the way he presents himself for school each day, always wearing his uniform with pride. Mabel is often seen interacting fairly and happily with her peers in group activities, sport activities and with her friends in the playground.

In Year 2, Laura understands that respect is when a person lives out the virtues of faith, hope and love. Laura willingly offers to help anyone when she sees a need, demonstrating enthusiasm and interest in every aspect of school life. Maxwell greets others warmly with his genuine smile and always treats those around him with kindness and honesty.

In Year 3, Max is a shining example of respect in our St Cecilia’s community, consistently demonstrating kindness, empathy, and responsibility in his interactions with others. Elle is kind, considerate and is always thoughtful in her interactions with others and is a caring and selfless friend to her peers. She always helps those around her without being asked, and through this sets a positive example to her classmates.

In Year 4, Samantha is a role model for others as she shows respect for people and the environment every day. She is always willing to assist to make sure that both her classroom environment and playground are kept tidy so everyone can feel safe and happy.

In Year 5, Lucy approaches daily tasks with a love for learning and actively engages in all activities. Lucy is always in the right place at the right time and makes sensible choices.

In Year 6, Mia is always ready to lend a helping hand, ensuring that both her classroom and the playground are kept tidy, creating a safe and welcoming space for everyone.

Well-done to all these students and thank you for being exemplary role models for your peers.
